December 5, 2017 -- A driver left a man injured and damaged Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.'s restaurant on the Santa Monica Pier after an early morning altercation Monday, according to police.

The incident began shortly after 1 a.m., when two groups confronted each other on the pier, police said.

"The investigation revealed that neither party was desirous of prosecution, and that both groups went their separate ways," said Sgt. Roberto Villegas.

The two groups met again at around 4:35 a.m., police said.

The suspect -- 21-year-old Daniel Arroyos -- returned to the Santa Monica Pier Deck Parking Lot to retrieve his vehicle and was exiting the Pier Deck Parking Lot when he "exchanged words with the victims," Villegas said.

"Arroyos drove his vehicle aiming it at the victims," he said.

The suspect struck one of the victims and caused some damage to the restaurant, Villegas said.

Arroyos’ vehicle was disabled as a result of additional collisions.

All the parties were still on scene when the police arrived.

The victim, who was treated on the scene by SMFD Paramedics, "sustained significant bruising to his leg and hip area," Villegas said.

Arroyos was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) and attempted murder, police said. The investigation is ongoing.

Police are seeking the public’s help locating additional witnesses or anyone in the area at the time of the incident.

Anyone with additional information regarding this incident should call Detective Goodwin at (310) 458-8942; or the Santa Monica Police Department (24 hours) at (310) 458-8495.
