School District Bond Oversight Committee Seeks Applicants

December 1, 2017 -- The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District is seeking applicants for its bond oversight committee, District officials announced this week.
Three members are needed for the seven-member committee, which was established to satisfy the accountability requirements of Proposition 39 and the state Education Code, which require school districts to conduct annual performance and financial audits on use of bond proceeds.
The District is seeking qualified candidates to fill the following vacancies:
* One active member in a senior citizen organization,
The committee oversees the expenditure of bond revenues from Measure BB and ES.
Measure BB, overwhelmingly approved by voters in 2006, authorized $268 million in bonds to be issued to start off an estimated $1 billion in improvement efforts across the district.
Approved by voters in 2012, Measure ES authorized the District to issue $385 million in bonds to be used solely for school facilities building and infrastructure improvement.
