Editor’s Note: The Lookout News sent several questions to the 10 candidates running for Santa Monica City Council. Eight responded. Each answer was limited to 150 words. The Lookout is publishing the candidates’ answers over several days.

October 14, 2016 -- Today’s questions: Who are you voting for in the City Council election? Do you support City Council term limits?

Jon Mann, challenger
Who are you voting for in the City Council election? Only myself and the other Green party candidate on the ballot, whom I have not met, but I visited her website. I would urge everyone not to vote for any SMMR endorsed candidate or incumbent.

Do you support City Council term limits? Term limits, AND clean money, representation by district, an elected mayor who would represent the residents, rather than a city manager.

Armen Melkonians, challenger
Who are you voting for in the City Council election? I will vote for myself, Armen Melkonians, and for Oscar De La Torre to honor the 10,000+ Santa Monica voters who signed the Residocracy Land Use Voter Empowerment (LUVE) initiative petition in record time, qualifying Measure LV for the November 8th ballot. Six of the seven Neighborhood Associations support it. I will not vote for any Council candidate who opposes Measure LV. Overdevelopment and traffic congestion are the primary concerns for Santa Monica residents. Measure LV will stop overdevelopment and increased traffic congestion in Santa Monica. Measure LV will finally give voters a voice that matters. All of the incumbents - Terry O’Day, Tony Vazquez, Gleam Davis, and Ted Winterer - oppose Measure LV. Because they do not want residents to have a vote or a voice about development and traffic congestion, they will not get my vote.

Do you support City Council term limits? Yes. Term limits will lead to a better Santa Monica with a City Council more responsive to residents’ concerns.

Terence Later, challenger
Who are you voting for in the City Council election? I am voting for Terence Later and Oscar De La Torre. The others I have not yet decided on.

Do you support City Council term limits? YES to the max. I believe that 2 terms is more than enough to get the job done. Absolute power corrupts.

Gleam Davis, incumbent
Who are you voting for in the City Council election? I am supporting Terry O'Day, Ted Winterer, and Tony Vazquez.

Do you support City Council term limits? No. As we can see with the effect of term limits on the State legislature, term limits eliminate important institutional leadership and memory.

Mende Smith, challenger
Who are you voting for in the City Council election? My mind is still not made up, actually.

Do you support City Council term limits? I am an advocate for ranked choice voting. This process eliminates the need for term limits as it offers voters the option to support favorable candidates who are actually accomplishing campaign goals while holding office. The accountability piece provides for public offices to remain top-functioning.

Tony Vazquez, incumbent
Who are you voting for in the City Council election? At this point I have not fully decided on who other than myself.

Do you support City Council term limits? Yes. But I believe it needs to be more than just two terms.

Ted Winterer, incumbent
Who are you voting for in the City Council election? We live in a time where privacy is an increasingly scarce commodity and the voting booth is one of the last sanctums in which we have control over personal information. So all I’ll say is that I will be voting for four candidates.

Do you support City Council term limits? No. If Councilmembers aren’t doing a good job the voters can replace them.

Terry O’Day, incumbent
Who are you voting for in the City Council election? Gleam Davis, Ted Winterer, Tony Vazquez and myself

Do you support City Council term limits? No
