November 21, 2016 -- The Santa Monica Police Activities League (PAL) raised more than $19,000 during its Spooktacular Halloween event on October 31 at the PAL Youth Center, organization officials announced last week.

More than 500 local guests, families and children attended the event, which included trick-or-treat activities, arts and crafts and a haunted maze at the Halloween carnival courtesy of major donors.

The free community event provided "a safe haven for local youth to enjoy the Halloween spirit," officials said.

“Santa Monica PAL creates a wonderful environment for Spooktacular where kids and adults can be excited and enjoy the fun of Halloween in a safe place,” said PAL Director Eula Fritz.

“We are grateful to all of our donors and sponsors who make this event possible not just for the kids but to also support the mission of our organization.”

PAL also has launched its Holiday Best Gift Ever Drive, which was in 2006 to provide over 300 Santa Monica children with gifts for the holiday season ("Secret Santas of Santa Monica," November 14, 2014).

The gifts are wrapped and given to the children during PAL's annual Holiday Workshop with Santa on December 22.

"It is our goal is to continue the efforts and reach even more deserving children in our community through the support and donations of businesses and individuals, officials said.

Those interested in donating a gift for youth ages 6-17 should contact the PAL Youth Center at 310-458-8988.

The Santa Monica PAL is a City staffed nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a safe and supervised place for young people ages 6 through 17 by offering free academic and cultural programs and a wide variety of recreational activities.

"PAL teaches skills, promotes self-respect and respect for others, and helps kids reach out to their peers and to adults," officials said.

The Santa Monica Police Activities League is located at the PAL Youth Center at 1401 Olympic Boulevard and is open Monday through Friday from noon to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 12-6 p.m. For more information, call 310-458-8988 or visit smpal.org.
