July 21, 2016 -- Santa Monica police arrested a suspect Tuesday evening in connection with a series of violent sexual assaults and attacks that took place this year on the Westside, officials announced.
Pineda also has been linked to a violent attack that took place on April 15 in Beverly Hills and a sexual assault on July 2 in West Los Angeles, Rodriguez said.
In the first Santa Monica assault, the victim was walking south along the shore when she saw a man walking north toward her, the victim told investigators.
As the suspect passed her, he said something in Spanish, and she continued walking, telling him she wanted to be left alone, police said.
The suspect turned, grabbed the victim from behind and threw her to the ground. He then held her down and physically and sexually assaulted her before running away, police said.
Tuesday's arrest was the result of "an extensive and collaborative" multi-agency taskforce investigation involving the Santa Monica, Beverly Hills and Los Angeles police departments and the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit.
Pineda was taken into custody and booked at the Santa Monica Jail for the Santa Monica assaults, police said.
He is charged with forcible rape, assault with intent to commit rape and assault by means producing great bodily injury, Rodriguez said. Pineda remains in custody on $385,000 bail.
