|Ferris Wheel at Pacific Park Lights Up for Valentine’s Day|

February 13, 2015--It’s where Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, stars the TV reality series “The Hills,” famously got hitched.
USA Today has listed it among the most romantic places for couples in Los Angeles, and Westways magazine calls it one of the “Great Places to Make a Romantic Proposal.”
A ride to the 130-foot top of the Pacific Park’s Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica Pier – revealing an aerial view of the Pacific Ocean, Catalina Island, Malibu and Palos Verdes Peninsula -- has sparked many a marriage proposal, said Andrew Mason, marketing manager for Pacific Park.
Especially on Valentine’s Day, he said.
“Absolutely,” said Mason. “We have a lot of wedding proposals over the years. Spencer and Heidi’s was probably the most famous, but it’s been a popular place for wedding proposals for years.”
For Valentine’s Day this Saturday, Pacific Park will once again light the wheel’s custom display of 160,000 LED lights that form hearts and other holiday theme patterns in pink, red and white, he said.
Built at a cost of $1.5 million, the Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica Pier has been spinning since 2008, and ever since then couples have discovered the ride to the top is a “perfect spot for romance,” Mason said.
Now hundreds of people turn out every year for Valentine’s Day ride, Mason said.
The Ferris wheel Valentine’s Day lighting display at Pacific Park begins at 5:42 p.m. Saturday. The amusement ride will operate until midnight.
“Come on down and have some fun, from sunset to midnight,” said Mason.
