Police to Set up Temporary Shop This Weekend

Lookout Staff

Sept. 17 -- While police make their big move into the new Public Safety Facility this weekend, the department will set up temporary shop in the lobby of City Hall.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the front desk officers, record center and watch commander will conduct routine business in the lobby, while the movers shuttle the department's belongings the few feet from the old facility to the new.

Phone services and 9-9-1 calls will not be interrupted, said Lt. Frank Fabrega, the police department spokesman.

Signs will be posted at the old station and in front of City Hall directing the public to the temporary location, Fabrega said.

The new $63 million Public Safety Facility -- which will also house the City's Fire Department and Emergency Services -- was publicly unveiled during a festive ceremony on August 26.

Dwarfing City Hall and the old police station, the 118,000-square-foot structure (with four floors above ground and two below) includes a 55-cell jail that can house up to 96 inmates, a state-of the art 9-1-1 dispatch center, and a spacious, high-tech emergency operations center.
