April 2 -- They came before dawn, slipped through the Gap and left a trail of shirts and pants.
Police are looking for a bold bandit or bandits who broke into The Gap on Wilshire Boulevard on Friday, March 29 by removing one of its front doors at around 4:30 a.m.
Officers responded to the popular clothing store in the 1900 block of Wilshire after a silent alarm at the business was triggered. When they arrived, they found one of the two main entrance doors leaning against the building. It had been taken off its hinges, Lt. Frank Fabrega said.
Carpenter-style jeans and assorted shirts formed a trail from the front door to the parking lot, but there were no signs of any suspects, who police say fled in an unknown type of vehicle. Officers looked for witnesses but were unable to find any.
The clothes were photographed and released to the store. The door also was photographed and processed for latent evidence.
Neighboring police agencies were notified of the incident and the investigation is ongoing.Anyone who has information regarding this incident should call Sgt. Lowe in the department's Crimes Against Property Unit at 458-8451.
