SMRR and RIFT

Dear Editor,

SMRR has not taken a position on the RIFT initiative and won't even consider one until our August convention. (“Anti-Development Initiative Headed for Ballot,” May 20)

We expect that both SMRR leadership and SMRR members will be all over the political spectrum on this issue. We are a democratic organization and are not in lock-step on issues.

Additionally, while individual members have met with people on all sides of RIFT, SMRR has not sent any representatives or delegates to any of the various coalitions.

Thank you for allowing us to clarify the SMRR position.
